The Bards of Time and Space — Ho Kan & Kwon Soonik
exhibition, key visual, visual identity, motion graphic
Presented as the annual exhibition of ALIEN Art Centre, rekindles the spiritual core of “abstraction” within the East Asian context. The exhibition opens with the works of Ho Kan, a pioneer of geometric abstraction in the Chinese-speaking world, alongside those of Korean contemporary abstract artist Soonik Kwon. Ho Kan constructs “order” through luminous color fields and precise geometric forms, while Kwon materializes the flow of qi on canvas through layered brushwork and tactile textures.
The Bards of Time and Space — Ho Kan & Kwon Soonik will take place in ALIEN Art Centre from 23 November, 2025 to 1 November, 2026.
Design
The geometric structural lines (the pink diagonal planes) draw from a formal deconstruction of Ho Kan’s Development 36, while the optical, perceptual dot-like interference (the blue field with black dots and scattered mineral pigments) echoes the visual vocabulary of Kwon Soonik’s Absence of Ego.
Through dynamic composition, the originally static image extends into a rhythm of pulsation and illusion, like breathing, like refracting the cadence of time and the pulse of space. As the lines of Ho Kan move through this dynamic flow, they become a visual metaphor for the timeline of the exhibition.

While responding to the artistic spirit of both artists, the visual design also seeks to retain the gentle, tactile quality of hand-painted flat brushwork.
